Tips to Maintain and Care for Marble

Marble is a stunning natural stone that can be used in many different applications. Marble can be used in many places throughout your home, including kitchen countertops and bathroom flooring.

Tips to Maintain and Care for Marble

Marble is a durable natural stone but marble can wear over time if it is not taken care of properly. Marble can be cleaned the same way as granite, but this is a common misconception. Marble is actually a soft stone, which is more susceptible to staining, chipping and chemical etching.

Marble needs to be cared for with the right products and the right approach. Here are five tips to prolong the life of marble factory.

1.Maintain a consistent cleaning routine. Regularly cleaning and clearing away debris is one of the best ways to prevent marble from getting scratched or tarnished. The most common cause of marble tarnish is the rubbing of dirt and sand particles. Marble is also susceptible to water spots so you should wipe it down immediately it gets wet.

There are many marble cleaners on the market, but a simple wipe down with warm water and a soft cloth is sufficient. Avoid using vinegar or other acidic cleaners to clean marble. This could cause chemical etching. Consider using a safe, PH-neutral detergent or soap to clean marble. An acetone substrate can be safe and effective for dark marbles like Belgium Black.

2.Make sure spills don't stain your clothes. If not removed immediately, acidic substances such as wine, soft drinks, and juice can cause damage to marble surfaces. It takes only a few minutes for acidic liquids to penetrate marble. So it is important to clean up any spillages quickly. Avoid rubbing or wiping spills that may cause staining. Instead, use a towel or soft cloth to absorb the liquid. Powder, rubbing alcohol, and warm water can be used to mix oil-based liquids that spill on marble.

3.Do not sit or place heavy objects on marble. Marble is more fragile than you might think. If you are not careful, the metal pots and pans or jeans and pants can scratch marble surfaces. To ensure that hot and heavy objects do not touch your marble surfaces, invest in quality placemats, hot pads, and coasters. If you have young children, consider setting ground rules. Deep scratches and chipping are the most damaging to marble countertops.

4.Polish marble on an ongoing basis. It is possible to prolong the life of marble by taking the time to polish it. There are many polishes that are made specifically for marble stone. A marble polish can protect against water spots, stains, and chemical etching. This investment is a great way to prolong the marble's life span.

5.Refinish and restore marble. Your marble may need to be refinished or restored after a while. You can hire a professional to restore marble, but you also have the option of a DIY marble restoration kit. These kits, which cost just over $100 for a high-quality kit, include everything you need to clean, polish, and refinish marble to make it look new. The outcome of your marble depends on its current quality. The longer you keep your marble looking natural and new, the better.

Although marble may seem strong, it is actually quite soft in comparison to other natural stones. You can keep your marble looking new for many years by learning the correct marble care techniques and using the right cleaning chemicals.
